A Tale of Two Rivers – Gertie Mae Gillespie
Darn little dog always under foot. I’ll get my hands on it one of these days. Now, just listen to all this chatter going on about that bone. People are always up to no good, I tell ya. It’s a good thing I’ve got my trusty sidekick right here in my purse. Never know when I’m going to need it. There’s trouble brewing in Two Rivers and I’m gonna get to the bottom of it.
Seems everybody has an opinion of just who that bone belongs to but nobody knows for sure. Some say it was the stranger that came through town a while back. Others say it was one of our own that we just lost track of and hadn’t thought about in years. Some say there was an old man who used to live over in the Hawthorne house and that he kept his wife locked in the attic. Some said they could see her standing in front of that attic window late at night but come to think of it, they hadn’t seen her in a few years. Just plum forgot about her.
I’ve been talking and listening all morning long and I’m getting some good stuff. Later on tonight, I’ll piece all this information together and see what I can come up with.
Haven’t seen that sheriff lately. Don’t know what he’s up to. Probably hiding out someplace to keep from having to do sheriff work. This younger generation don’t know how to put in a good day’s work anymore. And where’s that deputy? Love sick puppy that he is. Can’t get a good day’s work outta him neither.
Guess it’s just up to me to solve this case. Guess I’ll go interview my next witness.
A Tale of Two Rivers – Flo
The chatter in the Café is almost deafening. Trying to control this crowd of town folks, each with their own opinion of whom or what the bones found at the constructions site belonged to, is mind boggling. Why all these people felt the need to meet here at the Café is beyond me. Now, I’m not complaining. The business is great. I just wish the Sheriff would get here soon. Maybe he can do something about the stories spreading around like wildfire. Maybe calm some of the fears of some of the folks. Good thing I bought a gun.
I’ve heard myself, from a reliable source of course, the bones belong to a stranger who went missing a few years back. I remember serving him lunch just like it was yesterday. He had a burger, fries and a chocolate shake. He was only passing through town he said. Not planning on staying, just wanted to take a few pictures and leave. He asked me about some of the points of interest in the town of Two Rivers, paid his bill and left. Nice enough young fellow, very polite and not bad looking at all. I guess I’ll have to wait and see what the Sheriff says.
Now, what the heck is that commotion? What’s Gertie Mae doing? Is that Bessie’s dog? I hope Gertie Mae isn’t trying to catch him. He’ll bite her for sure. Run Coco. I wonder if Bessie knows he’s gone. Thank goodness he got away and there he goes out the back door. Good thing I left that open.
